Defending champion National University beat a surprisingly tough Adamson University, 79-61, to stretch its unbeaten run to 10 games in the UAAP 79 Women's Basketball Tournament.
After a close first three quarters on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena, the Lady Bulldogs unloaded 31 points in the last 10 minutes of play to assure themselves of a semifinals playoff berth.
The defending champions have now won 42 straight games dating back to 2014.
Gemma Miranda (22 points, 11 rebounds), Jack Daniel Animam (17 points, 25 rebounds), and Afril Bernardino (12 points, 12 rebounds) all posted double-double games for the Lady Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, De La Salle University, behind Snow Peñaranda's 18-point, eight-rebound effort, bested University of Sto. Tomas, 72-69, to remain right behind NU now at 8-1.
Still at third-place is Univesity of the East who rode Love Sto. Domingo and Nicole Mendina's 26 points combined to turn back Far Eastern University, 49-44. It was their sixth win in nine starts.
In other results, Hazelle Yam scored 10 points as Ateneo de Manila University gained a piece of fourth with a 47-44 win over University of the Philippines. The Lady Eagles tied the Lady Falcons at 4-6 to boost their bid for a second straight Final Four stint.
The Tigresses slipped at 3-6, while the Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Maroons fell at 2-7 and 1-9 slates, respectively.
