ROOKIE REWARDS. Aljun Melecio is quickly repaying DLSU and coach Aldin Ayo's trust in him.
Aljun Melecio scored 40 points not once, but twice in the UAAP Juniors.
Aljun Melecio seized for himself the MVP in the UAAP Juniors to go along with his back-to-back Mythical selections.
Aljun Melecio was the little engine that made everything run for De La Salle Zobel for two years in the UAAP Juniors.
What Aljun Melecio has never had, is a championship.
Luckily for Taft Avenue’s rookie stud, he and the Green Archers may well be on their way to a historic championship as they have now rolled to 10 wins in as many games. The title favorites in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament, they have yet to find their match.
Only in his first-year, Melecio wants nothing more than to do everything in his power to help DLSU fulfill their lofty goals – especially head coach Aldin Ayo who has already been trusting him this much, this early. “Talagang I make it a point na wag pahiyain si coach. Siyempre, ayoko namang sayangin yung trust na binibigay niya sa akin,” he said.
And yes, nothing else is on his mind other than the title which would be a personal milestone for him because he has never been a champion in the UAAP. As he put it, shooting down notions that he is out to chase down current top rookie Jerrick Ahanmisi of Adamson University, “Wala talaga sa isip ko yung Rookie of the Year.”
He then continued, “’Di ko talaga iniisip yun. Gusto ko talaga mag-champion kasi since high school, never pa ako nakatikim ng championship.”
