DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING. Second-running DLSU just got ambushed by bottom-feeding FEU.
Far Eastern University got just the statement they needed to announce their playoff push in the UAAP 79 Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The Lady Tamaraws got the jump on second-running De La Salle University and rode the strong start all the way to a 66-62 decision on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Loraine Ventura topped the scoring column with 13 points, but it was the hot hands of Precious Arellado and Valerie Mamaril who shot FEU to a fiery 25-12 opening salvo.
The lead would prove to be more than enough as the Lady Archers were unable to breach the 17-point mark in any quarter. They tied the tally at 60-all inside the last two minutes only to see the Lady Tamaraws have the last say and go on a 6-0 charge to close the contest.
With the much-needed win, FEU improved to 3-7 and stand just right behind shared fourth-placers Adamson University and Ateneo de Manila University.
Meanwhile, National University kept dominating with their 11th straight win in the season and 43rd win in a row overall dating back to 2014, this time a 71-49 romp of University of Sto. Tomas.
Afril Bernardino copped 24 points and 14 rebounds to yet again spark the two-time defending champions who are three wins away from another outright entry into the Finals.
Their respective losses dropped DLSU to 8-2 and UST to 3-7.
