DISCIPLINE. Bonbon Batiller was unable to contribute to UE's cause against Adamson.
The struggles continue even outside the court for the University of the East.
Bonbon Batiller, who was supposed to keep rising in his second year, was benched for the entirety of the Red Warriors’ matchup with Adamson University on Saturday.
UE’s top scorer was in uniform, but did not see any action on the court.
Apparently, it was all a disciplinary action from head coach Derrick Pumaren. As Batiller himself shared, “Parang may kaaway ako na teammate ko sa practice naming nung nakaraang araw.”
The sophomore was referring to Omar Larupay as the teammate he had a heated exchange with. He was quick to clarify, however, “Hindi naman nagkasuntukan. Nagkapikunan lang. Biruan lang.”
Batiller then went on to share that Pumaren witnessed firsthand what happened.
It was also right then and there that the stern mentor sorted everything out. “Nakita ni ‘Manong’ during practice. Okay na naman kami kasi na-settle na ni ‘Manong,’” he said.
Still, the Warrior said he had no idea he was getting benched. “Expected ko na ipapasok ako, pero coach’s decision at nirerespeto ko po,” he said.
UE and Batiller are not yet eliminated from contention, but are on the brink with a 2-8 standing.
