UP captain Manuel: ‘Medyo selfish, but I want to win more’

GOOD TIMES. Jett Manuel is experiencing the highest of highs in his collegiate career, but he wants more.
Jett Manuel is making the most out of each and every single game in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament – the last season of his collegiate career.
And that has only rubbed off on vastly-improved University of the Philippines who find themselves in joint fifth-place this late in the tournament. Of course, their graduating team captain has been an inspiration as coach Bo Perasol said, “Ga-graduate na rin si Jett. At least, alam niyang sa hanggang sa huling pagkakataon, meron kaming chance.”
For the first time in a decade, the Fighting Maroons breached the four-win mark following a hardfought win against National University last Wednesday. At 4-8 and with assignments against the bottom two teams to go in their schedule, they still have a chance to catch up with 5-5 and fourth-running Adamson University.
That is a chance that Manuel, of course, wants nothing more than to make the most out of. “As coach said, we’re grateful right now for the (fourth) win), but me, medyo selfish, I want to win more,” he expressed.
The graduating guard then went on to share that he has always been reminding his teammates that it has been such a long time since State U was in contention and that in itself should light a fire under them. “For me, the emotion coming into this season is totally different from what I felt in my past years,” he said.
He then continued, “You know, these opportunities don’t come often, especially for UP. So I always tell the team coming into games na I want us to win so bad.”
Lucky for Manuel, UP also wants nothing more than to answer his call. “At least man lang, may tsansa kami and for that alone, we’re proud. I don’t think we’re going to relinquish that chance,” Perasol expressed.
He then continued, “I think we’re going to fight for that chance. I think we’re going to embrace that opportunity.”
