NOT THIS TIME. For the first time ever, UP Pep will be skipping the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
The University of the Philippines Pep Squad will not be participating in the 2016 UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
In the contest’s order of performances released on Wednesday, seven of eight of the league’s member-schools were represented. Conspicuously absent was State U.
In a statement released by their official Facebook account, UP Pep said, “Regretfully, we will not be part of this season’s UAAP Cheerdance Competition.”
After a third-place finish in last year’s CDC, UP filed an official protest claiming that the “overall results did not genuinely reflect adherence to the competition guidelines and criteria.”
However, the UAAP upheld the results that granted the National University Pep Squad a three-peat championship.
The winningest squad in the 21-year history of the contest with a total of 20 medals, UP Pep has failed to capture the crown in the past three years.
Instead, State U will be taking part in the Asian Cheerleading and Dancesport Competition. “The national governing body of cheerleading in the Philippines has granted us the honor of representing the country and we are thrilled to carry our flag alongside Asia’s best,” the statement said.
Coach Lalaine Perena is yet to be reached for comment.
