The Growling Tigers swept the best-of-three series against the Green Archers via identical 3-0 scores to capture a league-best 26th men's diadem.

The University of Santo Tomas completed a perfect 16-0 season to end a three-year title drought in the men's division while De La Salle extended its reign in the women's side in the UAAP Season 79 table tennis tournament Tuesday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The Growling Tigers swept the best-of-three series against the Green Archers via identical 3-0 scores to capture a league-best 26th men's diadem with Norielle Pantoja winning the season MVP honors.

UST's win halted De La Salle's improbable run to the title. The Archers lost several key players led by Season 78 MVP Walden Ledesma and Rookie of the Year winner Carlo Mateo, finished sixth in the elims and hurdled five do-or-die matches to advance.

De La Salle's Nathan Siasico took the Rookie of the Year honors.

Meanwhile, the Lady Archers won a third straight title - and the first in the post-Ian Lariba era with a 3-2 decision in the championship decider.

After losing the Finals opener, 2-3, that ended a 14-game winning streak, De La Salle stormed back in Game 2 with a 3-0 victory that extended the series.

Chantal Alberto gave the Lady Archers the victory by nipping UST's Niña Nacasabog 11-3, 4-11, 6-11, 11-3, 12-10 in the deciding singles.

De La Salle's Emy Rose Dael was named the tournament MVP.  The Lady Archers have now won five crowns overall.
