SIMPLY AMAZING. Afril Bernardino and NU just keep on amazing and winning.

By this time, the things Afril Bernardino does is no longer surprising.

Still, that doesn’t make it any less amazing.

The reigning MVP tallied 17 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and nine steals as National University throttled Far Eastern University, 78-42, on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Just as it was yet another near quadruple-double for Bernardino, it was also yet another win for the Lady Bulldogs. They now stand at 13-0 in the UAAP 79 Women’s Basketball Tournament and have won all of their last 45 games dating back to 2014.

The two-time defending champions wasted no time in proving to be a mismatch for their opponents and led, 21-5, early in the second quarter.

NU then used a 31-9 third quarter tsunami for a 58-23 advantage to, once and for all, drown the Lady Tamaraws.

Bernardino was her amazing self, but, of course, coach Pat Aquino said she couldn’t have done it by herself. “Afril almost had a quadruple-double, but without her teammates, hindi niya magagawa yun. The fact na palaging may Jack (Animam) and Gemma (Miranda), malaki yun,” he said.

Indeed, Miranda had 21 points and nine rebounds while Animam had 15 points and 10 rebounds to provide backup.

Meanwhile, De La Salle University got the better of University of the East, 70-64, to hold onto second-place.

Captain Camille Claro collected 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists to lead the Lady Archers to their ninth win in 12 games.

With their respective losses, the Lady Warriors fell to 8-4, still in third-place, and FEU dropped to 3-9.
