Franz Pumaren promised a return to the Final Four in his first year at the helm – and now, all he needs is just one more win to see it through.
The even better news is that the Soaring Falcons will have three tries to do so.
Pumaren doesn’t want it to take that long, however, and he will try to guide Adamson right into the playoffs of the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament when they take on hapless University of Sto. Tomas on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The San Marcelino-based squad shoots for the fourth and final playoff berth starting at 4:00 PM and all of the action will be broadcast LIVE on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23 and ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 as well as streamed LIVE on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
After upsetting defending champion Far Eastern University, 61-59, the upstart Falcons are closing in on their first Final Four since 2011. With just one more win, they boot out of contention the two teams breathing down their necks – 5-8 National University and 5-9 University of the Philippines.
Plotting to play spoiler, however, are the Growling Tigers who want nothing more than to salvage whatever they still could in what has been a lost season. A 69-74 defeat at the hands of University of the Philippines the last time around eliminated last year’s runners-up.
In the first round, Adamson made quick work of UST, 79-52.
