Vigil on last game as a Tiger: ‘Basta laro lang ako’
GAME ON. Louie Vigil said he will do nothing but play his game in his last time suiting up in black and gold.

For the third time in the last six seasons, University of Sto. Tomas will not be playing in the Final Four.

That doesn’t mean, however, that they no longer have anything to play for with one assignment left in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Team captain Louie Vigil will don the gold and black for the last time on Saturday and has promised to go all out for the community that has supported him for the last five years. “Siyempre hinihiling namin manalo. Wala akong pakialam kahit tanggal na kami sa Final Four,” he expressed.

He then continued, “Basta laro lang ako para maganda exit ko para sa teammates ko and especially sa UST community.”

And although a four-win campaign would already be the best the Tigers could hope for, the 24-year-old said he had no regrets in choosing to use his fifth and final year of eligibility. As he put it, “Yung experience na nangyari rito sa amin, ‘di ko nire-regret. Every game, I’m playing my best and alam ko yung teammates ko rin.”

He then continued, “I expected Final Four this year, pero sana ‘di nila malimutan yung sakin ngayon. For sure, makakabawi sila next year.”

On a personal level, Vigil said coming under fire for UST’s dismal performance has only made him both a better player and leader. “Kung sa akin ang sisi, siguro kulang pa ang binigay kong scoring, rebounding, assists. Aakuin ko yung pagkatalo, siguro kulang pa mga pinakita ko,” he said.

He then continued, “I think plano ni God yun for me. Lesson sa akin ito kung saan man ako mapunta.”
