De La Salle-Zobel advanced to the second stage of the stepladder semifinals after booting out University of the East.
De La Salle-Zobel overpowered University of the East, 25-18, 25-16, 25-15, to keep its hopes alive for the remaining championship berth in the girls division of the UAAP Season 79 high school volleyball tournament at the Adamson University gym.
The Junior Lady Spikers played just hard enough to eliminate the fourth-ranked Junior Warriors and assure themselves of a podium.
Next in line for De La Salle-Zobel is a second step-ladder semifinals duel with second seed University of Santo Tomas.
The Tigresses, who hold the twice-to-beat incentive for finishing second in the elimination round, hope to use their homecourt advantage to the hilt in their showdown with the Junior Lady Spikers at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the UST Gym.
If De La Salle-Zobel prevails, the rubber match is set on Nov. 21.
Defending two-time champion National University is in the best-of-three championship series after sweeping all of its 12 elimination round matches.
The boys division semifinals will start tomorrow, with titleholder Bullpups playing No. 4 Far Eastern University-Diliman at 3:00 p.m. at the NU Gym.
The other boys pairing between No. 2 UST and third-ranked University of the East is set on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the UST Gym.
By finishing 1-2 in the eliminations, the Bullpups and the Tiger Cubs need only to win once to advance in the best-of-three title series.
