EXTRA DETAIL. Ben Mbala is okay with having two bodyguards tailing him as long as it is for the good of DLSU.
After another win, the De La Salle Green Archers were mobbed by fans as they exited the MOA Arena last Saturday.
That’s not at all surprising for a team considered to be the title favorites.
What was surprising was that, for every selfie with Ben Mbala, fans were also getting a couple of extras in their shot.
Asked about the two men in polo barong, slacks, and black shoes who were always behind him, the Cameroonian candidly said, “Let’s just say that it’s just for my security.”
He then continued, “The ambassador of the team just wants me to be protected and I just can’t say no to what he’s saying.”
Mbala did not disclose any more details on why the extra security was necessary. What he did share was that his two companions are with him anywhere and everywhere – except for when he is finally inside his room in the team dormitory.
While he has accepted it, the hulking first-year player was still quick to admit that having not just one but two bodyguards was weird. “Yes, it’s weird. It’s affecting my social life,” he expressed.
He was quick to clarify, however, “But I’m doing it for the team. After this (season), I’ll have my regular life back.”
