Trendy playoff picks during the preseason, the UE Red Warriors crashed and burned in UAAP Season 79.
Disappointing is the only word that could describe UAAP Season 79 for the University of the East.
Ending the year with a 3-11 record after having Final Four aspirations in the preseason, the Red Warriors are all pretty much ready to move on.
But not before making it known that this season was a huge bust.
"Di lang medyo eh, sobrang disappointing. sabi nga ni coach [Derrick Pumaren] after nung game na di niya ine-expect na ganito matatapos yung season namin," veteran RR De Leon said.
"Disappointing. We had high expectations and we just didn't live up to that," the graduating Paul Varilla added.
After a promising summer stint, the Red Warriors were trendy picks to make the playoffs in what was considered a wide-open Final Four race this season.
However, UE opened the season with six straight defeats, sinking the Red Warriors' playoff hopes almost immediately.
With this disaster of a season now in the rearview, UE hopes to start again next season, carrying the lessons learned into what hopefully is a playoff breakthrough.
"We lost so many games this season, knowing all the wrong [things] that we did, knowing that I have a feeling that next year would be different for UE," Varilla said.
