GETTING THE HORNS. FEU-Diliman wasted no time in bouncing back at the expense of fellow contender Ateneo.

Far Eastern University-Diliman is raring and ready to make noise in the UAAP 79 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

With Kenji Roman fronting a balanced offensive, the Baby Tamaraws controlled the contest from start to finish and charged right through Ateneo de Manila High School, 77-73, on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.

Coming off a loss to now league-leading Adamson High School, FEU-Diliman looked nothing but determined to bounce back. LJ Gonzales waxed hot right from tip-off and scored seven points to propel them to a 15-8 start.

Both the advantage and the momentum would be on Diliman’s side until the final buzzer.

Roman wound up with 16 points and had four other teammates in double-digits as the Baby Tamaraws pulled even with defending champion Nazareth School of National University for the second spot at 2-1.

Dave Ildefonso broke out for the Blue Eaglets with 22 points, seven rebounds, and six steals which still fell short in preventing their second straight setback.

Jumping over Ateneo in the standings is University of the Philippines Integrated School which rode, of course, Juan Gomez de Liano way past University of the East, 95-63.

Gomez de Liano posted a 24-point, 11-rebound double-double to show the Junior Maroons the way to 2-1.

Meanhwhile, De La Salle Zobel registered their first win in the post-Aljun Melecio era after a 64-58 triumph over University of Sto. Tomas.

The Eaglets and the Junior Archers now stand at 1-2 while the Tiger Cubs remain winless through three games.
