NU leaves no doubt in claiming four-peat in UAAP Cheerdance
AT THE FOUR-FRONT. NU is now the second squad to have won four consecutive championships in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.

Truly, National University is now the gold standard in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.

Executing yet another never-seen-before routine, the NU Pep Squad added yet another feather to their cap with a fourth consecutive championship now in the event’s 2016 iteration on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

With a futuristic-themed performance, NU netted the best score among all teams of 711 – 50 points better than their runners-up.

This time around, NU Pep left no doubt about their dynasty as anything and everything in their performance – from their pyramids to their tosses and from their tumblings to their dances – left the crowd in awe. “After that very controversial na pagkapanalo (last year), gusto naming patunayan sa tao na kaya kami nandito, kasi binibigay namin best namin,” coach Ghicka Bernabe said.

Champions from 2013 until present, the Sampaloc-based squad achieved a feat which only University of Sto. Tomas was able to do before them. They take home PhP 340, 000 with their four-peat.

“Yung four-peat, talagang kine-claim na namin yun even before ka kasi alam namin kung anong kaya naming ipakita,” Bernabe added.

One more title next year and NU Pep matches an unprecedented five-peat also only ever done by UST.

A distant second was Far Eastern University which nonetheless finally barged back into the podium on the back of their Broadway-inspired number which wound up with a score of 658.5.

The FEU Cheering Squad made their return into the top three after a three-year absence. Along with the runner-up trophy, they take home PhP 200, 000.

While NU was the favorite and FEU was a contender from the get-go, Adamson University was a pleasant surprise for just about everybody as its water-themed routine proved to be more than enough for third-place with 655 points.

San Marcelino’s pride made it a point to, as they said, make waves and they did so with a fluid and flawless performance. They take home PhP 140, 000 with their breakthrough.

In the Group Stunts, it was also NU Pep Squad who reigned supreme. They bested second-placer UST and third-placer FEU.

NU also won both special awards in the Best Toss and the Best Pyramid. In total, they take home PhP 440, 000 in cash winnings.

Rounding out the rankings are the University of Sto. Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe, the University of East Pep Squad, De La Salle University Animo Squad, and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Babble Battalion.
