Was Adamson Pep’s performance worthy of second-place?
ALMOST. Adamson Pep Squad was a pleasant surprise for just about everybody as they returned to the podium after a 15-year absence.

With all eyes on defending champion National University and fellow powerhouses Far Eastern University and University of Sto. Tomas, Adamson University stole the show in the 2016 UAAP Cheerdance Competition.

Of course, that was until the NU Pep Squad saved the best for last and left no doubt about their dynasty.

Still, taking the stage after the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe and the FEU Cheering Squad, the Adamson Pep Squad was a pleasant surprise for just about everybody with their water-themed routine opening up eyes and mouths alike.

In the end, their pleasant surprise proved to be more than enough for third-place with 655 points. “Sobrang saya namin kasi ang tagal na naming hinintay manalo. Ilang taon naming pinaghirapan tapos ngayon na nagbunga mga paghihirap namin,” team captain Carlo Espelita expressed.

On a more personal note, he added, “Tapos graduating year ko pa.”

Still, the San Marcelino-based squad was merely 3.5 points behind second-placer FEU. If they only had four points more, they would have matched the school’s best finish in the history of the event.

That’s not dampening their spirit, however. As Espelita put it, “’Di naman kami disappointed. The fact na nanalo kami, sobrang saya namin.”

In the tally sheet, Adamson and FEU were neck-and-neck in all five categories except one – tumbling, where the latter scored 82 while the former had 64.5. Of course, that’s what they will be working on come next year as Espelita said, “Siyempre po. Next year, alam kong alam na nilang kailangan nilang i-improve yun.”

Espelita also shared that while they have always aimed to end Adamson’s 15-year podium absence, they weren’t expecting at all after their performance. “Nage-aim talaga kaming mag-podium, pero after ng lahat ng routine, basta nag-pray lang kami,” he said.
