Impressive Adamson jumps on Ateneo to rise to 4-0
LEGIT. Early on, Adamson has already distinguished itself among all title hopefuls.

There can no longer be any hint of doubt about it anymore, Adamson High School is for real as a championship contender in the UAAP 79 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

First-year player Encho Serrano opened even more eyes with 23 points, seven rebounds, and two assists and the Baby Falcons flew higher than Ateneo de Manila High School in a 77-65 decision on Tuesday at the San Juan Arena.

Upstart Adamson is now off to a 4-0 start with wins against University of the Philippines Integrated School, Far Eastern University-Diliman, Nazareth School of National University, and Ateneo. All four are considered to have good chances at the playoffs.

The Blue Eaglets were still in it and had the tally tied at 21 after the opening salvo until Tamayo and Encho Serrano got together to front a 34-14 tsunami that surged the Baby Falcons way ahead, 50-35, in the middle of the third.

Ateneo could only come as close as 10 for the remainder of the game.

By stretching their strong start to four in a row, Adamson remains alone atop the leaderboard, with the tough part of their first round schedule already out of the way. Still, this is far from their peak form as coach Goldwin Monteverde said, “We’re still focused on improving.”

On the other hand, the Eaglets suffered their third straight setback to fall to 1-3. SJ Belangel paced them with 14 points.

Meanwhile, FEU-Diliman stayed at the second spot after throttling University of the East, 100-82.

Xyrus Torres busted out with 23 points as the Baby Tamaraws went back-to-back for an overall record of 3-1. The Red Warriors dropped to 1-3.
