YOUNG BLOOD. Thirdy Ravena and Ateneo are young yet hungry for a return to the Finals.
With Ateneo de Manila University in danger of losing all the momentum they have gained from a five-game winning streak, Thirdy Ravena took over.
The second-year forward produced two points and two assists in the last two minutes to power the Blue Eagles to the solo second-seed last Wednesday.
And it wasn’t just in the endgame where Ravena was brilliant. In all, he collected a total of 14 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists.
For the younger brother of Kiefer, his power performance, one of already many throughout the tournament, was all about making up for lost time. As he put it, “It’s enough motivation na makarating kami rito. Motivation din sa akin na dahil ‘di ko nabigay lahat last year, double-time ako this year na ibigay ko lahat.”
Ravena was forced to sit out a season ago due to academic deficiencies.
While he’s back with a vengeance and making up for lost time, the hyper-athletic wing said it’s not only him who has a chip on his shoulder. “Iniisip namin na we’ve worked really hard this season and we wanted to prove to everyone na ‘di porke’t bata kami, ‘di namin kaya manalo,” he said.
He then continued, “I know we’re young and we have to dig deep kung gusto naming manalo.”
The second-seed is far from the end of it for Ravena and company, however. “As a team, iniisip namin na every game is the most important game. So next game, that’s the most important game namin so I think we have that mentality na we just want to give it all,” he expressed.
