TOP DOG. Afril Bernardino, just like NU as a team, is still yet to find her match this season.
Afril Bernardino is the reigning MVP in UAAP Women’s Basketball – and reigning, she will remain.
National University’s third-year guard wrapped up becoming the top individual player in back-to-back seasons on the strength of per game counts of 19.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 4.6 steals, and 1.6 blocks.
Bernardino totaled 91.86 Statistical Points (SPs) all while leading the Lady Bulldogs to their third consecutive sweep of the elimination round. She was more than 10 points better than her closest competitor.
The now back-to-back MVP was, without a doubt, the standard for all-around play as she stuffed the stat sheet for each and every game. She even collected a couple of triple-doubles and flirted with a few quadruple-doubles along the way.
Coming up second and third, respectively, are Bernardino’s teammates in Gemma Miranda and Jack Daniel Animam.
Miranda wound up with 79.46 SPs courtesy of averages of 19.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.2 steals while Animam finished with 72.21 SPs behind norms of 12.9 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks.
NU’s “Big Three” is also poised to compose three out of five in the Mythical Team.
Completing the Mythical selections are University of the East’s Love Sto. Domingo and De La Salle University’s Snow Penaranda.
