Bullpups now being led into battle by mature JLC

I AM THE CAPTAIN NOW. John Lloyd Clemente is now truly doing it all for NU as its main man.
When Justine Baltazar graduated from Nazareth School of National University, there was no panic at all about how their title defense would go in the UAAP 79 Juniors Basketball Tournament.
John Lloyd Clemente remains a Bullpup, after all.
The six-foot-seven Baltazar may have been the poster boy of the dominance of NU, but Clemente was right there with him – flashing even more potential than his more heralded teammate. In the race for Season 78 MVP, Baltazar finished second while Clemente wound up third.
And now, Clemente has done nothing but prove that there truly is no reason to panic. As coach Jeff Napa said about his new team leader, “Nag-mature na siya.”
Indeed, right after the Bullpup’s suffered their first setback of the season, the 18-year-old was a picture of maturity. Asked to react to their loss to now-pacesetter Adamson High School, he answered, “Malayo pa po yung laban namin. Start pa lang naman po ito.”
And that kind of big picture-thinking is the improvement for this year that Clemente is proud of. “Ang makikitang bago sa akin ngayon, imo-motivate ko yung mga teammates ko, isasama ko sa paglalaro yung teammates ko,” he shared.
Already having showcased his skills as an all-around player, the graduating swingman is now letting his voice be heard on and off the court. “Kaya ko na ginagawa yun kasi kailangan na ngayon. As a leader, kailangan ko na rin talagang sabihan yung teammates ko,” he said.
With Clemente capable and capable of leading the way, there truly is no reason to panic for NU. In fact, even though they are no longer the league-leaders, he remains nothing but confident about their goal in saying, “Kayang kaya namin. Simple lang naman yung goal namin, back-to-back.”
