WE'RE HERE. Bright Akhuetie went out of his way to watch DLSU practice.
De La Salle University took the Araneta Coliseum court on Wednesday right after archrival Ateneo de Manila set a Finals date with them.
The usual suspects from the top-seed Green Archers were all there for what turned out to be a scheduled practice.
Right there with them, however, was Bright Akhuetie.
While he was not in uniform, Akhuetie had frontrow seats for the DLSU’s private practice, as how team officials called it.
The Nigerian was last seen playing for University of Perpetual Help in the NCAA. Now in the offseason, however, rumors have circulated that he was set for a transfer.
Asked about it, Akhuetie was non-committal about his presence. “I’m just here to watch the game,” he said in between chuckles as the Final Four matchup was already over and done with.
Pressed to comment on the rumors of his transfer, the six-foot-eight center said, “Nothing yet.”
Still, Akhuetie referred to himself as a “free agent” – all but confirming that he is no longer with the Altas.
Earlier rumors pegged Ateneo de Manila University and University in the Philippines as the teams in a tug-of-war for the former Perpetual player.
