Emotions flared up even outside of the court during Ateneo-De La Salle Finals Game One.
The intensity and emotion of the 79th UAAP men’s basketball best-of-three championship series opener between De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila spilled outside of the hardcourt inside the rocking Mall of Asia Arena Saturday.
A commotion behind the bench of the Blue Eagles added color to the already testy match late in the third quarter.

Former Batangas vice-governor Mark Leviste tried to confront Ateneo assistant coach Gabby Severino who he said flashed a dirty finger to some of the Green Archers. Leviste rushed behind Ateneo’s bench and called out head coach Tab Baldwin’s lieutenant who ignored the agitated supporter wearing a DLSU No. 1 jersey.
Security personnel and cooler heads broke the commotion and escorted Leviste back to his seat.
“Eh ang kulit eh,” Leviste said after emotions died down.
“He was giving a bad sign. (Nagalit ako) kasi ayaw niyang tumigil eh,” he explained further. “So I said stop it. Eh ayaw, oh eh di hinamon ko na.”
But at the end of the tight match, Leviste did flash a wide smile as the Taft-based squad clad in green escaped with a 67-65 squeaker.
Game 2 is on Wednesday at the Big Dome.
