DON'T JUMP, YOUNG BLOOD. Aljun Melecio showed off his shot-taking and shot-making with more than a few triples that kept Ateneo at bay.
With Ateneo de Manila University putting them under siege, Aljun Melecio took the shot for De La Salle University.
The first-year player’s triple touched nothing but net.
Granting the Green Archers a more comfortable margin in the middle of the third quarter, Melecio looked back, stared at no one in particular in the sea of blue, and put his right index finger to his lips.
Much like his ballsy shot, it was a ballsy gesture for a rookie. Asked about it after the game, he answered, referring to the Ateneo crowd, “Nainis lang ako. Ang ingay nila e.”
Melecio had a couple more threes that put a stop to Blue Eagle runs. “Kinakausap lang ako ni coach na just take good shots and have good decision-making,” he said.
In the end, DLSU’s super rookie had 12 points in four-of-seven shooting from deep in his first Finals game in the Seniors.
Not a bad showing at all from a player who has just recently learned that he is set to be named as Rookie of the Year.
In Melecio’s eyes, however, he can only be better. “Next game, siguro, may ii-improve na naman ako. Basta sundin ko lang si coach na just play your game,” he expressed.
