Ateneo de Manila University has urged the UAAP to enforce more stringent measures so as to avoid any more so-called “aggression” in the ongoing rivalry series in the Finals.

“I think any fan who approaches the bench with aggression should be escorted out by the guards – whether it’s from the green or blue side,” Blue Eagles manager Epok Quimpo said in a statement.

Late in the third quarter last Saturday at the MOA Arena, some sort of commotion added color to the already testy matchup between the Philippines’ fiercest rivals.

Former Batangas vice-governor Mark Leviste attempted to confront Ateneo assistant coach Gabby Severino after the former said the latter flashed a dirty finger to some of the Green Archers.

Fortunately, security personnel were able to get in between them and were able to escort Leviste back to his seat.

In Quimpo’s view, the DLSU fan should have been ejected instead and even added, “If this will not be addressed by the officials, there’s a big chance that this will happen again.”

The Ateneo manager then went on to say that fans and team staff alike should let their players, and their players alone, settle the score between them. “This is Ateneo-La Salle, let the teams play their best, let the tradition continue where sportsmanship, class, and respect is shared by the schools,” he said.

The Green Archers lead the Blue Eagles in the best-of-three series, 1-0.

Game Two of the rivalry series will commence on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
