CHINKS IN THE ARMOR. Mike Nieto and Ateneo remain adamant that they can replicate their feat in the elimination round - when they handed DLSU its first and only loss.
De La Salle University trumped Ateneo de Manila University last Saturday to move one win away from the championship.
The Green Archers built a double-digit lead, quelled an uprising, and had the difference-maker in Jeron Teng. They took their archrivals’ best shot and still came out on top.
Nonetheless, the Blue Eagles remain undeterred. “They’re beatable naman talaga. We did that during the second round and we’ll do it again on Wednesday,” Mike Nieto expressed, full of confidence.
DLSU’s first – and thus far, only – loss in the season came at the hands of archrival Ateneo.
Shocking just about everybody then, the Eagles were in control for majority of the matchup against the previously thought-to-be unstoppable juggernaut.
In the end, the final score read, 83-71, in favor of the kids from Katipunan.
That is exactly where Ateneo draws confidence from even with their backs now against the wall. As Nieto put it, “Hindi naman sila invincible. Alam na naman yung sistema nila kaya lahat ng ibang teams, dumidikit na sa kanila.”
As such, the second-year forward said don’t be surprised if there will still be a UAAP game on Saturday. “Wala nang miracle dyan if we beat them on Wednesday. We’ll follow what our coaches want us to do so we’ll be ready come Wednesday,” he said.
