GETTING SOME AIR. Winners of three in a row, Ateneo has left its early season struggles far in the rearview mirror.

Struggling for much of the first round in the UAAP 79 Juniors Basketball Tournament, Ateneo de Manila High School finally has what it needs to get going – a feel-good win against its fiercest foe.

RV Berjay came up big and the Blue Eaglets came from behind to frustrate archrival De La Salle Zobel, 64-57, on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.

Berjay scored seven of his 15 points in the final frame as the kids from Katipunan finally found their bearings.

Struggling for the first three quarters, Ateneo’s second-year center lifted them into shooting 53 percent and outscoring their opponents, 21-9.

More than coming out on top in the rivalry game, Ateneo registered its third consecutive victory and strengthened its stranglehold at the fourth spot with a 4-3 record.

The winning streak is a welcome development after three losses in a row dug a 1-3 hole in the standings for the Eaglets.

SJ Belangel chipped in 12-point, 16-rebound double-double.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern University-Diliman also fortified its position via an 87-76 victory versus University of Sto. Tomas.

Eric Jabel scored 16 points while RJ Aberrientos turned in his best game yet with 14 markers of his own as the Baby Tamaraws barged back into the win column now at 5-2. Their standing is good enough for solo third.

With their respective losses, the Junior Archers fell to 2-5 and the Tiger Cubs dropped to 1-6.
