TOP SPOT. Encho Serrano continues to be a pleasant surprise as the MVP frontrunner.

Not only has Encho Serrano busted out as the standout among standouts for league-leading Adamson High School, he has also busted out as the frontrunner for MVP in the UAAP 79 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

The first-year Baby Falcon has emerged as the topnotcher in terms of Statistical Points (SPs) with 73.43. This is built on averages of 19.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists all while leading his team to seven wins in as many games.

Despite his height of five-foot-11 usually seen in a guard, he makes the most of his damage inside the paint. Consistently outworking bigs a head taller than him, he has been described by Adamson head coach Goldwin Monteverde to be “all-heart.”

However, Serrano is not out of the woods just yet with SJ Belangel of Ateneo de Manila High School giving him a run for his money.

The Blue Eaglets’ captain has 70.57 SPs on the back of per game counts of 15.7 points, 10 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.4 steals.

Rounding out the top five are University of the Philippines’ Integrated School’s Juan Gomez de Liano, Nazareth School of National University’s John Lloyd Clemente, and Far Eastern University-Diliman’s Kenji Roman.

A season ago, it was another diminutive guard in Aljun Melecio, then of De La Salle Zobel, who took home MVP.
