LIKE A DIAMOND. Bright Akhuetie will be more than capable of fortifying UP's biggest missing piece.
Now, there can be no doubt – the future looks bright for the University of the Philippines.
Coming off a return to relevance in 2016, the Fighting Maroons are beginning 2017 with a bang in the form of the transfer of Bright Akhuetie.
The hulking Nigerian will be leaving University of Perpetual Help to don the maroon and green over at Diliman, as confirmed by head coach Bo Perasol. “Bright has committed to play for UP,” he said.
Parasol was also glad to share that there would be no speed bumps in the move as State U was able to secure Akhuetie’s release from his former school in Las Pinas.
The six-foot-eight center will provide a much-needed paint presence for a UP team nothing but hoping to continue its contention.
Akhuetie averaged 17.6 points, 12.1 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.3 assists in his last year as an Alta.
However, he will still have to sit out one season for residency. He will officially play for UP in Season 81.
Then, the Maroons’ lineup will be fronted by the likes of Javi Gomez de Liano and Noah Webb.
