Watch out for these UAAP volleyball stars in season 79
Below are the players to watch out for, one from each team, in order of their team's record last season. Let's go.

The UAAP season 79 women's volleyball tournament is upon us and with it comes another dose of exciting matchups, storylines, and characters that make fans tune in for more.

And what better way to welcome the new season than to recognize the players who’ve made it their mission to not only compete, but to make the game more compelling to watch for all of us?

Below are the volleybelles from each team, in order of their team's record last season, who’ve shown a lot of great stuff last season, and are expected to excite us all for the months to come.

Kim Dy (DLSU, Utility Spiker)

Season 78 Elimination Round Stats:
8.7 points per game
0.36 service ace per set

Kim Dy’s elimination round numbers may not turn any heads but that’s because she was the most dangerous revelation during DLSU’s title run last year. Coming alive in the latter part of the season, she became the key contributor for coach Ramil De Jesus, even becoming season 78 Finals M.V.P. With veteran setter Kim Fajardo setting things up, her offense this season will surely be destructive from start to finish.

Bea De Leon (ADMU, Middle Blocker)

Season 78 Elimination Round Stats:
7.21 points per game
0.54 kill blocks per set

Guarding Ateneo’s net is the veteran Bea De Leon, a vocal leader whose well-balanced game is only second to her oozing confidence and the old school swagger she brings to the Lady Eagles’ arsenal. With a relatively young squad, expect BDL to rake in higher numbers as she’ll translate all the shared experience from her seniors into wins.

Bernadeth Pons (FEU, Open Spiker)

Season 78 Elimination Round Stats:
15.4 points per game
33.74% success rate in attacks
2.38 digs per set

In an FEU Lady Tamaraw squad full of hard-hitters, the fourth-year veteran Bernadeth Pons stands out by possessing the craftiest mind that makes the most lethal hit found in Morayta almost unstoppable. She has been the main offensive choice for coach Shaq Delos Santos for years now so don’t expect her to take a step back anytime soon.

Isa Molde (UP, Open Spiker)

Season 78 Elimination Round Stats:
12.5 points per game
0.43 service ace per set
1.86 digs per set

Dubbed by many as a “Super Rookie” last season long before she was crowned rookie of the year, Isa Molde exhibited the confidence and skill that was well beyond her years, even becoming one of coach Jerry Yee’s go-to finishers. With a year of experience on her résumé, one can only get thrilled as to what the 5’7 Cebuana will be capable of this season.

Jaja Santiago (NU, Middle Blocker)

Season 78 Elimination Round Stats:
15.21 points per game
47.52% success rate in attacks
0.49 kill blocks per set
0.43 service aces per set

The first thing you’ll almost always hear about NU’s fearsome middle blocker Jaja Santiago is her height. At 6’5, the sky is the limit for the young Lady Bulldog but she doesn’t rely on height alone. She’s a dominant force on defense while being a lethal and efficient option on the offensive end as well. Her quick attacks are nearly unstoppable, and with a world of experience already in her belt, she has become an even bigger force to be reckoned with this coming season.

EJ Laure (UST, Open Spiker)

Season 78 Elimination Round Stats:
14.8 points per game
34.69% success rate in attacks
23.67% efficiency rate in reception

UST had a dismal season last year, and it was basically due to the lack of veteran savvy. But the Golden Tigresses have shown that they have put all of that behind them after a strong outing in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference. Powering their offense is EJ Laure who, with the high-flying Cherry Rondina makes up for the best attacking duo in the league. Add in the recent revelation that is Carla Sandoval, another hard-hitting spiker to relieve the pressure to produce,  and things won’t be as difficult. Expect Laure to receive more open looks for her signature laser-accurate cross-court attacks as well as a more detailed focus on reception, since she won’t be as relied upon offensively as last year.

Jema Galanza (AdU, Open Spiker)

Season 78 Elimination Round Stats:
13 points per game
30.25% success rate in attacks
23.21% efficiency rate in reception

This femme fatale from Adamson can turn heads in and out of the court, but the damage she can cause any team’s defense is by far her most dangerous trait. Leading the Lady Falcons this year, backed up by a new coach and a new system, Jema Galanza can only improve on what she’s been able to accomplish in seasons past.

Shaya Adorador (UE, Open Spiker)

Season 78 Elimination Round Stats:
10 points per game

Shaya Adorador and the rest of the UE Lady Warriors have had a rough couple of seasons. But last year, we saw one of the most spirited efforts from the same squad as they snapped their 58-game losing streak after defeating the Adamson Lady Falcons in their last game, in straight sets no less. Leading that crew was Adorador, their top hitter who kept the Lady Warriors running even when they could just have dropped another game. But here they are.
