Sa performance OK naman talagang sobrang error lang ‘yung no. 1 na naging problema namin -- FEU coach Shaq Delos Santos
It’s back to the drawing board for the Far Eastern University.
Considered as one of the top title contenders this 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament, the Lady Tamaraws found themselves lacking Sunday bowing to the defending champion De La Salle University, 27-29, 22-25, 23-25, at the Big Dome.
Head coach Shaq Delos Santos pointed on the team’s 38 errors as the main suspect.
“Medyo ‘di namin na-control ‘yung errors namin,” Delos Santos lamented of their miscues including two crucial mistakes in the closing stretch of the third set.
“Sa performance OK naman talagang sobrang error lang ‘yung no. 1 na naging problema namin,” he added.
The Morayta-based squad failed to take advantage of its almost intact core with only setter Gyzele Sy leaving after last season compared to DLSU, which lost most of its veterans after annexing the school’s ninth title last year.
Defensively, Delos Santos felt that they did a good job but could’ve done better if not for their sluggish play and inability to hold on at the end of each set.
“Okay naman siya pero hindi siya totally lumabas ngayon dahil siguro sa mga errors namin at dun sa kilos na ginagawa namin. Medyo hindi ganun ka-smooth ‘yung nangyari,” he said. “Sa skills, walang problema, ‘yung pag-handle lang ng pressure pagdating doon sa game.”
The mentor now wants to put the game behind and prepare for Wednesday’s match against Adamson.
“Hopefully maging magandang sign or makatulong samin yun nangyari sa unang game na 'to,” said Delos Santos.
