Far Eastern University celebrates a straight sets win over De La Salle University.
Far Eastern University joined three other teams in the opening day winners’ list after a straight sets victory over De La Salle University, 25-16, 25-19, 26-24, Sunday in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome.
Veteran Greg Dolor was unstoppable on the attack as he led the Tams with 14 kills on his way to a 15-point season debut in his swan song.
Jude Garcia finished with 12 markers while John Paul Bugaon had seven points for FEU, which followed defending champion Ateneo de Manila, National University and University of the Philippines on top of the standings in the opening weekend of the tournament.
Head coach Reynaldo Diaz said that the win was extra sweet as they avenged their sorry loss against the Green Spikers in the second round of last season.
“Noong huling laban namin (noong Season 78) natalo pa kami. Siguro naging motivation ‘yun ng mga bata,” he said.
The Morayta-based squad exploded for 41 attack points with setter Kris Silang playing an inspired game to dish out 41 excellent sets.
Raymark Woo was the only player in double figures for DLSU with 16 markers while Arjay Onia got seven.
