UE eyes another clean sweep in UAAP fencing
The Recto-based fencers, who ruled the men's and women's division for the fourth straight time last season, are tipped to win in the four-day event.
The University of the East hopes to make another run at a championship double as the UAAP Season 79 fencing tournament opens Wednesday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Arena.

The Recto-based fencers, who ruled the men's and women's division for the fourth straight time last season, are tipped to win in the four-day event.

The most successful squad in the sport, UE finished Season 78 with four golds, three silvers and two bronze medals, beating University of Santo Tomas (2-0-2) and University of the Philippines (0-2-3) in the process.

With last year's MVP Michael Nicanor gone, Nathaniel Perez, who himself was a former MVP, will lead the way for the Warriors on his final season.

UE is also gunning to extend its domination in the women's division for the 10th straight season.

Behind the efforts of season MVP Keren Pangilinan, the Lady Warriors collected a 5-1-2 gold-silver-bronze tally, beating the Tigresses, who finished in second place with a 1-2-2 haul. De La Salle University had 0-2-4 collection in third spot last year.

The Junior Warriors swept the boys and girls championships in the high school division and are eyeing to repeat the feat this season.
