University of the Philippines collects its second straight win to join early leaders Ateneo de Manila and Far Eastern University.
Good distribution of the ball and balanced scoring gave University of the Philippines its second straight win for a piece of the lead Saturday in the 79th UAAP men's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Fighting Maroons had three players in double figures thanks to the superb play of setter Jerahmeal Baldelovar in UP's 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16, win over the listless University of the East Red Warriors.
Alfred Valbuena and Gian San Pascual scored 15 points each with the duo combining for 22 of the Diliman-based squad's 41 total attack points in the Maroons' second win in as many outings to tie idle three-peat seeking Ateneo de Manila and Far Eastern University.
Wendel Miguel got 14 markers while Baldelovar dished out 40 excellent sets on top of his three points for UP, which opened the season with a five-set victory over Adamson.
The Red Warriors dropped to 0-2 slate tied with Adamson. UE's woes continued after absorbing its 30th straight defeat overall.
Season 77 Rookie of the Year Edward Camposano scored 21 points and had help on offense with Geric Ortega finishing with 12 for UE.
But their efforts were not enough to save a squad that threw away 39 points off their errors.
