Three-peat seeking Ateneo de Manila stakes its unbeaten slate against Far Eastern University in a battle for the solo lead.
Unbeaten teams defending champion Ateneo de Manila and Far Eastern University dispute the solo top spot Sunday in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Both the three-peat seeking Blue Eagles and Tamaraws share the lead with idle University of the Philippines after hurdling their first two assignments.
Game time is at 10:00 a.m. that will air live over ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23 and via livestream.
Behind three-time Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo’s 18 points, Ateneo asserted its mastery over National University, 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16, last Wednesday in a rematch of last year’s Finals.
They will take on the equally dangerous Tamaraws, who survived a five-set match against Adamson, 25-22, 25-19, 28-30, 25-27, 15-10, also last Wednesday.
Greg Dolor, who scored 19 points the last time out, Peter Quiel, Jude Garcia, Richard Solis and John Paul Bugaoan will again be the players to watch as FEU marches into battle against Espejo and his crack crew of Rex Intal, Josh Villanueva, Karl Baysa and 6-foot-8 Russian-American Tony Koyfman.
Meanwhile, NU and Adamson look to bounce back from their respective setbacks in their 8:00 a.m. duel.
The Bulldogs parade a 1-1 slate tied with University of Sto. Tomas while the Falcons are down the cellar after a winless result in two outings beside University of the East and De La Salle.
