Far Eastern University had to be reminded the hard way that volleyball games are won by taking three sets.

The Lady Tamaraws came close to starting a winning streak but they squandered a 2-1 match lead and suddenly found themselves on the losing end of a five-set thriller.

Bernadeth Pons’ 18-point performance went down the drain together with the win that could’ve pushed them close to the pacesetters after FEU bowed down to Ateneo de Manila University, 19-25, 26-24, 25-19, 16-25, 11-15, Sunday in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

“Sobrang sayang sobrang nakaka-disappoint kasi mananalo na tapos natalo pa,” said the fourth year hitter after the Lady Tams slid to 1-2 win-loss card.

FEU controlled the match after three sets but had trouble controlling their first ball and struggled on offense to close out the game.

The Morayta-based squad gave 11 aces to the Lady Eagles and threw away 35 points off their errors.

Pons said that they were not surprised with the way Ateneo played. They just shot themselves on the foot.

FEU can only hope for a bounce back on Saturday against University of the East.
