Green Spikers stun Maroons in straight sets for first win
De La Salle University wins its first game after three starts.

Raymark Woo pounded his way to 18 points Wednesday to lead the De La Salle University Green Spikers in a stunning 25-23, 25-19, 25-21, win over the erstwhile undefeated University of the Philippines in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The fourth year hitter smashed all of his points from attacks to shock the cold Fighting Maroons and deliver the first win of DLSU head coach Nes Pamilar in his return to the league since leaving the women’s team of Far Eastern University back in 2011.

Rafael Del Pilar, Cris Dumago and Jopet Movido had nine markers each for DLSU, which barged in the win column for 1-2 slate.

“Nakita ko unang-una ‘yung teamwork nila. Sabi ko sa kanila magtulong-tulong tayo kasi hindi pwedeng magkanya-kanya tayo. Kasi sa first two games namin parang ayaw magpadala o ayaw magpasakop. Sabi ko magpasakop tayo sa bawat isa para mabuo tayo,” said Pamilar.

The Maroons, which dropped to 2-1 card tied with University of Sto. Tomas, Far Eastern University and National University, never had their game going playing catchup the whole time and missing the same intensity they had in their first two games.

Alfred Valbuena was the only UP player to score in double figures with 17 points while John Mark Millete and John Mark Castillo finished with eight markers each.
