Pamilar gets first win in return to UAAP
Masaya kasi unang-una kababalik ko lang sa UAAP -- DLSU coach Nes Pamilar

It took De La Salle University three games to formally give head coach Nes Pamilar a fitting welcome gift in his return to the UAAP.

The Green Spikers mentor was all smiles Wednesday when he entered the pressroom moments after DLSU scored a straight sets demolition of erstwhile undefeated University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21, in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

“Masaya kasi unang-una kababalik ko lang sa UAAP,” said Pamilar, who is coaching another green-clad team since handling Far Eastern University.

Pamilar left the league in 2011 when he stepped down as head coach of the Lady Tamaraws. FEU won its last of 29 women’s titles under Pamilar back in Season 70.

He was tapped by the Taft-based squad after last season to steer the Green Spikers back in the right direction after missing the Final Four in the previous three seasons.

But DLSU under his watch encountered back-to-back hiccups losing to FEU and University of Sto. Tomas.

“Pero kasi yung first two games namin hindi pa ganoon ka-organize ang galaw namin. Naging lesson sa kanila ‘yung dalawang talo namin,” he said.

“Kahapon hindi kami halos nag-practice at nag-usap-usap lang kami. In-explain ko sa kanila kung bakit gagawin to, ano ang gagawin?”

Pamilar admitted that they are managing their expectations this year with the team still adjusting with his system.

“Mahirap din sa side nila eh kasi para dun sa nasa fifth year na dyan ako na ang pangatlong coach nila eh,” he said. “Iba-ibang sistema hindi pa nila masyado ma-adjust ang sarili nila.”

DLSU will take on National University on Sunday.
