Ateneo, La Salle take rivalry to football pitch
Ateneo and De La Salle rekindle their rivalry on the football field

MATCHES ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16 (MORO LORENZO FOOTBALL FIELD)

2:00 PM - UE vs. UST (Men's)

4:00 PM - DLSU vs. Ateneo (Men's)

For the first time since last season's Final Four, collegiate rivals meet on the football pitch as Ateneo de Manila welcomes De La Salle to their home pitch for some UAAP men's football action, Thursday afternoon at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field in Ateneo.

The Blue Eagles  look to stay hot and on top of the men's football standings as they go for their fourth straight win in as many games. Sophomore Jarvey Gayoso has been leading the charge for the Katipunan side as of late, estabilishing himself as the league's leading scorer as well as playing playmaker to key contributors like rookie Sam Lim and Rupert Baña.

On the opposite end of the football field, the Green Archers have started slow in Season 79, managing to hold defending champions UP to a scoreless draw, and then following that up with a 2-0 win over UE for their first of the season.

This will be a rematch of last season's semifinals, where Ateneo booted DLSU out in a penalty shootout.

Ateneo and DLSU clash at 4:00 PM.

In the first match of the afternoon, two winless teams try for their first W of the season, as University of the East meets University of Santo Tomas.

The Red Warriors had a promising start to Season 79, picking up a draw against National University, but it has been downhill from there, suffering back-to-back losses against UP and DLSU.

After a return to the post-season last year, the Growling Tigers have been out of sorts in Season 79, dropping their first two matches by wide margins. In their last outing, they hung with Ateneo in the early going, before the league leaders pulled away late.
