Ateneo de Manila puts its unbeaten slate on the line.
Defending champion Ateneo de Manila stakes its unbeaten record against a team looking to end a losing slump Saturday in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Opening serve is at 10:00 a.m. and live over ABS-CBN S+A and via livestream.
The three-peat seeking Blue Eagles are the only remaining unbeaten team, winning in its first three starts for the solo lead.
Ateneo is coming off a 25-18, 25-15, 25-19, win over the erstwhile undefeated Far Eastern University last Sunday with three-time Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo, Rex Intal and Russian-American Tony Koyfman leading the way.
Adamson, meanwhile, has yet to win a game this season and is on the cellar tied with University of the East.
But Ateneo mentor Oliver Almadro is not taking the Falcons lightly especially that Adamson has defeated them in the first round for the last two seasons.
“The past few years sila ang laging unang talo namin and we’re aware of that,” he said. “We are not taking that lightly. We have to squeeze more sa sarili namin.”
The Falcons absorbed a 26-24, 17-25, 23-25, 26-28, loss at the hands of National University last Sunday.
Michael Sudaria, Jerome Sarmiento and John Philip Yude are expected to step up big to save Adamson from further slump.
Meanwhile, FEU and UE face off at 8:00 a.m.
The Tamaraws seek to get back on the win column. FEU is on a four-way logjam tied with NU, University of Sto. Tomas and University of the Philippines with two wins in three games.
The Red Warriors are coming from a heartbreaking 26-28, 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 7-15, defeat Wednesday against UST to fall to their 31st straight loss.
