DLSU opened their season with a big win over defending champions UP
Kyrhen Dimaandal scored in the first half, while Kyla Inquig added another goal to help De La Salle University open their season with a win over defending champions UP, 2-1, in UAAP women’s football action, Saturday evening at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
In the dying minutes of the first half, Dimaandal picked up the pieces of a missed long ball from NIcole Andaya to give the Lady Archers the opening goal.
Last season’s runners-up started the second half strong with their second conversion of the match, this time coming from Inquig, who sank the free kick in the 48th minute.
Just seven minutes later, UP made things interesting by pulling one back, courtesy of a BG Sta. Clara conversion.
The defending champions had a few more chances to pull out an equalizer, but ultimately couldn’t even things up and DLSU held on for the W.
The Lady Archers gain a measure of revenge from last season’s finals as they open Season 79 a win and three points, while UP absorbs back to back losses to start the season.
Ateneo currently leads the women's standings with two wins and six points, while UST is at second with one win and three points, followed closely by DLSU, also with a win and three points. FEU and UP remain at the bottom of the standings, both with two losses each.
