No comment muna ako doon -- FEU coach Shaq Delos Santos
Far Eastern University head coach Shaq Delos Santos put top hitter Toni Basas in the doghouse Saturday.
Delos Santos refused to disclose the reason why Basas, who is averaging 10 points per game, sat out the match against the upset-conscious University of the East Lady Warriors.
“No comment muna ako doon,” said Delos Santos when asked about benching the third year opposite after FEU’s 25-18, 25-22, 25-27, 25-11 escape to even its record to 2-2 in the 79 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
With Basas riding the bench, the Lady Tams were one scorer short and flirted with disaster as the Lady Warriors threatened to comeback from two sets down. Bernadeth Pons, Jerrili Malabanan and Remy Palma carried the scoring load to help the FEU walkaway with the win to bounce back from a five-set loss to Ateneo de Manila a week ago.
“Ano muna ‘yun close muna ‘yun tungkol doon,” said Delos Santos, who just said that Basas has an injury.
But Basas said she’s perfectly fine.
“Wala po (akong injury), hindi ko po alam (bakit ako binangko), ‘yun po ang desisyon ni coach Shaq susundin ko,” she said. “Wala po akong injury, OK po ako.”
“‘Di naman po ako nagulat na ‘di ako pinaglaro kasi ginawa namin yun sa training,” Basas added.
Aside from Basas, libero Kyla Atienza also skipped action.
FEU will face National University next week.
