Audie Menzi scored in the second half to help FEU past NU in UAAP men's football action.
Audie Menzi provided the lone conversion of the match as Far Eastern University improved to 3-0-0 in UAAP men’s football action after coasting past National University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Playing without four key rotation players including former MVP Paolo Bugas and skipper Val Jurao, the Tamaraws, led by sophomore striker Rico Andes pushed the action in the opening half.
FEU finally got on the board in the second half, with Menzi converting in the 49th minute.
The Bulldogs fought hard but ultimately couldn’t answer back, as the Tams held on for the win.
“It was a win, we can’t say that we’re happy with our performance, although NU came out playing really low block, we weren’t expecting how low they would play, we needed to make some adjustments at halftime,” FEU coach Vince Santos said post-match about his team’s lackluster performance. “We’ll take the win.”
Santos also addressed the impact of the absences of Bugas and Jurao, both nursing injuries.
“They are influential to our side, Paolo plays in the middle and does a lot of our penetrating passes, Val on the wing is a threat for us in our attacks.”
“We really also have to see the rest of the team, it’s a long season, so we need to see who among the players on the bench we can use when we need to.” Santos added.
The win pushes FEU temporarily into second place, with three wins and nine points. NU falls to one draw and three losses for one point.
