Ateneo de Manila stakes its unbeaten record against a team that has yet to win a match this season.
Three-peat seeking Ateneo de Manila University guns to build a wider separation from the rest of the field on Wednesday when the league-leading and undefeated Blue Eagles take on the luckless University of the East Red Warriors in the 79th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Behind the consistent game of three-time Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo, the Katipunan-based squad is on a roll with four straight victories in as many outings for the solo top spot.
Espejo, who is averaging 16.25 points per game, unleashed 22 points last Saturday in the Blue Eagles’ 25-17, 25-16, 25-20, crushing of the listless Adamson Falcons.
Ateneo will face another winless team in the 8:00 a.m. match that will be followed by the De La Salle University and Adamson showdown at 10:00 a.m.
The Green Spikers-Falcons match will air live over will air live over ABS-CBN S+A and via livestream.
Both UE and Adamson are at the bottom of the standings, losing all of their first four games.
The Red Warriors bowed to Far Eastern University in a sorry 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 18-25, 9-15, loss last Saturday that sent UE to a 32-game losing slump.
DLSU holds a 1-3 record at sixth spot and is coming off a 29-27, 17-25, 21-25, 19-15, defeat at the hands of idle National University last Sunday.
