Lady Eagles shoot for third straight win, hold of second
Ateneo de Manila is on a lookout for its third straight win and continue its hold of the second spot.

Ateneo de Manila University shoots for its third straight win against winless University of the East Wednesday in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles and Lady Warriors march into battle at 2:00 p.m. The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 23 and via livestream.

Behind the superb playmaking of skipper Jia Morado and veteran hitters Jho Maraguinot, Michelle Morente and Bea De Leo, Ateneo remains on the right track in its campaign to reclaim the crown it lost last year to archrival De La Salle University.

The Lady Eagles are perched in a three-way tie at second to fourth spots with DLSU and National University parading identical 3-1 win-loss records behind league-leading and undefeated University of the Philippines (4-0).

Ateneo is coming off an easy 25-19, 25-18, 25-13, crushing of another winless team Adamson Lady Falcons last Saturday.

The Lady Eagles hope to continue with its momentum as they wrap their first round campaign against powerhouse teams UP on Sunday and a rematch of last year’s championship series against DLSU on March 4.

“Ang sabi namin, isa-isa lang muna. UE muna ang aming pinaghahandaan," said Ateneo assistant coach Sherwin Meneses, who went 2-0 while coach Tai Bundit was out of the country. "Kitang-kita naman ang UE, lumalaban din talaga."

Adamson and UE are both still in search for their first win of the season after dropping their first four games.

The vastly improved Lady Warriors gave their opponents quite a scare but still need to find that finishing kick to finally capture the elusive win.

UE bowed to Far Eastern University, 18-25, 22-25, 27-25, 11-25, last Saturday.
