FEU rolls to fourth straight win, sends DLSU to third straight loss in UAAP men's football
Nicolas Ferrer Jr, (10) scored FEU's only goal to push them past DLSU, 1-0, in UAAP Men's Football action
A late-first half goal from Nicolas Ferrer Jr was all that was needed for Far Eastern University to surge into their fourth straight after getting past struggling De La Salle, 1-0, in UAAP men's football action, Thursday afternoon at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field in Ateneo.
The Tamaraws saw a handful of clean chances in the early moments of the match, but it was Ferrer's 34th minute header that hit the mark and gave the Diliman-based squad an early advantage.
Late in the second half, sophomore Dave Deloso had the chance to put the game on ice, only to see his strike go wide.
With time running out and looking to avoid a third consecutive loss, the Green Archers turned the intensity up in the final minutes, with rookie Mathew Custodio nearly pulling out a game-saving equalizer, but ultimately couldn't hit.
The Taft side's late-game rally fell short as FEU held on for their fourth straight victory.
With the win, FEU improves to four wins and twelve points in the tournament as they move into second place, overtaking University of the Philippines who sit with three wins and a draw for ten points.
University of Santo Tomas, winners in the earlier match of the afternoon, sit at fourth place with two wins, three losses and six points.
DLSU drops to one win, one draw and three losses for four points, followed by Adamson with a win and three losses for three points.
NU and UE round out the standings, both with a draw and no wins so far in the tournament for one point each.
