FIRST FIVE. While he didn't have an MVP season as expected, John Lloyd Clemente still spearheaded NU into another top-seed.

Just like Nazareth School of National University is back in the championship round, John Lloyd Clemente is back in the Mythical Team now in the UAAP 79 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

Bullpups’ captain Clemente and Ateneo de Manila High School main man SJ Belangel stand alongside MVP Juan Gomez de Liano of University of the Philippines Integrated School as top performers in the tournament.

NU’s prized prospect from Pampanga averaged 14.8 points on 42.7 percent shooting, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists to finish with 61.29 Statistical Points (SPs).

Meanwhile, the Blue Eaglets star normed 16.8 points on 42.9 percent shooting, 7.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.4 steals to compile 69.71 SPs.

Completing the five are another Atenean in Dave Ildefonso who had averages of 12.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.7 steals as well as University of Sto. Tomas’ Inand Fornillos who had norms of 11.5 points on 55.8 percent shooting and 10.6 rebounds.

The MVP and the Mythical Five will be recognized before Game 2 of the Finals on Friday at the San Juan Arena.

Only two in the Mythical Team are graduating players. Belangel, Ildefonso, and Fornillos will still be playing a year from now.

Interestingly, Finalist Far Eastern University-Diliman and playoff team De La Salle Zobel had no representative in the Mythical Team.
