I'M COMING. Kai Sotto more than lived up to the hype, ending his debut campaign in the UAAP as Rookie of the Year.
Kai Sotto had a quiet first round before bursting onto the scene in the second round and the playoffs of the UAAP 79 Juniors Basketball Tournament.
But that was already more than enough for him to be named the Rookie of the Year.
On the back of per game counts of 4.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks, the Ateneo de Manila High School’s 14-year-old emerged as the top newcomer in the league.
Using the first round to adjust, Sotto then emerged in the second round as the paint presence the Blue Eaglets needed to complete an already formidable lineup with SJ Belangel, Jason Credo, and Dave Ildefonso.
The six-foot-nine center bested University of Sto. Tomas forward CJ Cansino for the recognition.
