National University face the inconsistent Far Eastern University in its drive to get back on the winning track.
National University hunts for a bounce back win and a share of the lead but is expected to face a tough challenge against Far Eastern University Saturday in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and the match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 23 and via livestream.
The Lady Bulldogs saw its three-game winning streak snapped the last time out to slide back to 3-1 win-loss record at solo fourth spot behind league-leading University of the Philippines (4-0) and reigning champion De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila, who are tied at second to third with identical 4-1 slates.
NU head coach Roger Gorayeb hopes to see more variations in their offensive pieces and not rely too much on 6-foot-5 Jaja Santiago to get back in the win column after a shocking 27-29, 16-25, 21-25, whipping against De La Salle University last Sunday.
The 6-foot-5 Santiago, who is the league-leader in spiking, blocking and service departments, needs a lot of support from Aiko Urdas, Risa Sato and Jorelle Singh to lessen her offensive load for the Lady Bulldogs.
"Experienced players na mga iyan, hindi na sila bata. Alam nila ‘yun. Sila na ‘yun. Sa sarili nila, kailangang ayusin na nila," said Gorayeb.
FEU, meanwhile, is struggling on its consistency. The Lady Tamaraws have been alternating losses and wins for a 2-2 slate.
The Morayta-based squad defeated University of the East, 25-18, 25-22, 25-27, 25-11, a week ago and FEU coach Shaq Delos Santos hopes that his team could spark a winning streak this time.
"Kailangang ayusin namin ‘yung service, ‘yung consistency ng laro namin and ‘yung drive ng mga players. ‘Yung willingness na every point, pinapahalagahan," said Delos Santos.
