The Battle of Katipunan rages on into the football pitch
MATCHES ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26 (Rizal Memorial Stadium)
2:00 PM - UP vs. Ateneo (Men's)
4:00 PM - Adamson vs. NU (Men's)
6:00 PM - UST vs. DLSU (Men's)
It may be called the Battle of Katipunan to the general public, but for UAAP men's football fans, it's a highly anticipated finals rematch, as league-leading Ateneo de Manila meets defending champions University of the Philippines for the first time in Season 79, Sunday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
For the Blue Eagles, Sunday's matchup is a chance to get a measure of revenge against the Maroons, who demolished them in last season's final. More importantly, it's a chance for top-seeded Ateneo to earn their sixth straight win and prove that they're the team to beat this season. In their last outing, the Blue Eagles, led by their rookies, blew by University of the East, 3-1.
For the defending champion Maroons, who are on a three-game winning streak of their own, it's a chance for them to remind everyone exactly why they are the defending kings of UAAP football. In their previous outing, rookie Marco Casambre announced his arrival to the UAAP with the game-winning goal against UST.
UP is Ateneo's toughest test so far this season, and the result could be an interesting indicator of which team will be the favorites for the season.
UP and Ateneo take to the pitch at 2:00 PM.
In the other matches of the afternoon, National University tries to get their first win of the season when they take on Adamson University at 4:00 PM.
At 6:00 PM, struggling De La Salle will try to put an end to their two-game slide when they take on UST, who are looking to win their second straight match.
