NO FIGHTING. Tots Carlos said that the UP Lady Maroons will go right back to work in looking for the fight that was missing in their first loss of the season.
The University of the Philippines dropped its first set in the UAAP 79 Women’s Volleyball Tournament last Wednesday.
Just four days later, the Lady Maroons dropped their first game in the tournament – surrendering a straight sets loss, no less.
The feel-good story in the early part of the season, State U looked far from the same squad that rang off four consecutive victories – including a blanking of defending champion De La Salle University.
Of course, Tots Carlos was not going to hide her disappointment after their dismal performance. “Siyempre, malungkot kami. Pero wala naman kaming ginawa,” she said.
She then continued, “Buong game, nataranta lang kami and ‘di kami lumaban. Wala talaga.”
Asked if the big-time stage of “The Battle of Katipunan” and the bright lights inside a fully-filled venue had an effect on them, Carlos answered, “Well, sa tingin ko, yung tapang namin, wala talaga. Yun talaga e kasi pag wala yun, ‘di ka na makakagalaw e.”
The same sentiment was apparently echoed by head coach Jerry Yee in their locker room post-game. As Carlos shared, “Tinanong lang ni coach kung anong ginawa namin sa game. Sabi niya, wala naman siyang magagawa dun sa mga nangyari kanina.”
She then continued, “Sabi niya, kung gusto namin, kunin namin and kung ayaw namin, wala siyang magagawa. So nasa sa amin talaga kung mananalo ba kami o hindi.”
The good news both for Yee and the faithful over at Diliman is, if Carlos is to be believed, the girls have taken their first loss to heart. “Ita-try namin talagang bumawi,” she expressed.
